Schuylkill home, stolen SUV burned

A home in Washington township, Schuylkill County was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. The blaze was reported at 2:45 a.m. at 73 Hetzels Church road just south of Route 443.

When firefighters from numerous communities arrived on scene they found the two story single family wood frame dwelling fully involved in flames. Within minutes they also discovered a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker in a field several hundred feet away, also fully involved. The vehicle was reported stolen between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Reports from the scene is that a man had a confrontation at the scene with state police and was taken into custody.

Route 443 was closed to traffic for tankers to be filled at several dams to battle the blaze. State troopers from Reading are investigating the incident.
