LVH-Pocono’s first drive-thru flu shot clinic held at the Stroudsburg Junior High Saturday was busy.
“It turned out to be a nice day. The clinic started 9 a.m. and people were already lined up way before it started,” said nurse Jennifer Hess, infection preventionist at LVH-Pocono, and the coordinator for the drive-thru flu shot clinic.
Children ages 6 months to adults were eligible to receive the vaccine. All they needed to do was follow the signs, pick one of the lanes, pull your car in the lane and wait your turn.
Sometimes the younger ones were a little wary about a nurse with a needle, but basically most cars only had a 5-minute wait before it was their turn.
“It is always important to get a flu shot every year, but it is especially important this year with the Pandemic,” said nurse Lisa Prator, quality and safety specialist at LVH-Pocono.
“If people don’t protect themselves from the flu and cases of the coronavirus continue to rise, the hospital systems could become overwhelmed,” Hess said.
“Drive-thru shot clinics are an excellent opportunity to protect the community,” she said.
FYI
This year because it was the first drive-thru flu clinic for LVH-Pocono, the hospital only planned one. “We wanted to learn from this one and see if we needed to change anything,” Hess said.
