State police at Schuylkill Haven report on area crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes in Schuylkill County:
• Troopers investigated a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist along Route 901 in Norwegian Township at 10:58 a.m. on Sept. 29. Troopers said Angela J. Mazurkevich, 40, of Mount Carmel, was southbound driving a 2020 Jeep Renegade when a bicyclist entered her lane of travel. Mazurkevich attempted to avoid the bicyclist but hit it with the passenger side front of her vehicle. The bicyclist spun and struck both passenger doors of the Jeep. Mazurkevich pulled into the parking lot of a Turkey Hill Market. The bicyclist fled the scene.
• A crash was reported at 12:54 p.m. on Sept. 28 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. The drivers involved were identified as Kay A. Jobrey, 56, of Minersville, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, and Martin E. Davis, 45, of Pottsville, driving a 2016 Ford Fiesta. No one was injured. Troopers did not release any details of the crash. Jobrey was cited for following too closely.
• A crash occurred on Sept. 18 at 3:19 p.m. along Route 61, east of Pheasant Run Road, in West Brunswick Township. Troopers said Robert W. Strausser, 60, of Pottsville, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Trax, was slowing in the right lane while northbound due to traffic ahead of him. His vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2006 Toyota Highlander driven by Christina H. Gogel, 49, of Orwigsburg. Gogel, Strausser and his passenger, David P. Strausser, 54, of Pottsville, were not injured. The Highland had to be towed. Troopers cited Gogel for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:08 a.m. on Sept. 25 along Route 443 (Long Run Road), in Wayne Township. Troopers said Fernando Do Patrocinio, 54, of Tamaqua, driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck, and Wanda V. Hillbish, 79, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, were both westbound. Hillbish had her four-way lights on her vehicle due to foggy and dark conditions. She then attempted to make a left turn onto Butler Street as Patrocinio attempted to pass her on the left.
The Silverado struck the driver’s side of the Santa Fe and then continued off the road, hitting street signs and landing in a ditch where, it came to rest. The Santa Fe came to a stop on Butler Street.
There were no injuries. The Silverado had to be towed. Patrocinio was cited.
