Tamaqua staffer tests positive for virus

A case of COVID-19 has been reported in Tamaqua Middle School.

Superintendent Ray Kinder posted a letter on the website last weekend that a staff member at the school tested positive and in isolation.

“Thankfully, that person is nearly asymptomatic and feeling well. All other information related to the individual is strictly confidential,” Kinder said.

When the school was informed of the positive case, the district immediately contacted and

received guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and supplementary health consultants. Communication occurred with data collection and risk assessment performed by the Department of Health.

“After this consultation, it was determined that no students were identified as being at risk and quarantine is not recommended for any students,” Kinder said.

Kinder said all of our buildings are disinfected daily.

“This is an opportunity to remind all members of our community of the importance of wearing face coverings, keeping socially distant whenever possible and disinfecting hands and surfaces regularly. We also want to remind families to complete the district’s health screening tool that is to be used prior to coming to school each day,” he said.
