The final service ever of the St. Paul United Church of Christ’s congregation in Summit Hill will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The house of worship has stood at the present location at Chestnut and Hazard streets for 142 years. Declining attendance and membership are stated as the main reasons for the closure.
The Rev. Wilbur Albright, supply pastor, said assets of the congregation following the legal closure of the church will be turned over to the Penn Northeast Conference of the United Church of Christ. By constitutional mandate, he said, the property will revert to the conference.
