A Schuylkill County driver led police on a high speed chase along several county roadways before driving his vehicle into a corn field and being apprehended.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident began at 2 a.m. Sept. 15.
Troopers said the suspect, Devin Harris, 20, of Pottsville, was involved in a brief vehicle pursuit with Pottsville city police. The vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Impala, was then located traveling south on Route 209 in Tremont Township at a high rate of speed. Troopers attempted a traffic stop but Harris continued. He then fled onto 209 into Porter Township, losing control of the vehicle traveling slightly off the road. Harris continued to flee north on Route 125 into Hegins Township at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued onto Deep Creek Road traveling northeast. Harris then made a right turn onto Wishample Road and abruptly into a corn field where the pursuit shortly ended. A check revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen by a Saint Clair resident.
Harris was charged with 13 counts including driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude police, receiving stolen property, agricultural trespasser posted land, false reports to law enforcement and eight motor vehicle code violations.
