Hikes planned

Two hikes are planned for the state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.

• On Oct. 14, naturalist Robin Tracey, of Tuscarora State Park, will lead a hike on the Oak/Hemlock Trail at Locust Lake.

The hike is 4 miles in length and difficult. The trail loops around Locust Creek and traverses up the mountain for a great view of the forest below. Part of the hike includes the “tree identification trail” made by one of the area Eagle Scouts.

Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed and get along with other pets and people. Meet at the visitor parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch. Shine only. Bring a mask.

Preregistration is required, limited space. For more information contact Tracey at 570-467-2506.

• The second hike on Lake View Trail and Roc Loop will be on Oct. 21, at 10:30 a.m. The hike is 6.5 miles in length and moderate to difficult.

The trails cross over two creeks and run parallel to the lake. There is a spectacular view from the dam and explore the state game lands near the spillway pond.

Meet in the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. Registration is required.

Call between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to register with Tracey. This is a dog friendly hike, but all pets must be leashed and get along with other pets and people.

Bring a lunch and a mask. Shine only.
