Pleasant Valley reports teacher has COVID-19
Pleasant Valley School District has reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19 on Friday.
Superintendent Lee Lesisko said in a statement, “Late last night, we learned that one of our staff members at the high school has tested positive for COVID-19. We are following our Health and Safety Plan and taking all the necessary safety precautions that we should be taking, including contacting the PA Department of Health.”
He said everyone who has been in close contact have been notified and operations will continue as normal.
“We will continue transparent communication when there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19. If you have any questions, please contact your building administration,” Lesisko told parents in a robocall Friday morning.
Lesisko said that as soon as he found out about confirmed case, he notified the school board and called the state Department of Health.
The staff member is a teacher at the high school, but this person was absent from work on Thursday and Friday. The high school and all schools in the district were deep cleaned on Wednesday as is part of the district’s Health and Safety Plan. The deep cleaning includes the use of a fogger.
“We do not want people to panic,” Lesisko said. “We’re doing everything we need to do.”
Lesisko said the state Department of Health said the students should be safe, because they were wearing their masks and were sitting 6 feet apart in the classroom.
A trace analyst from the state will be in touch with the school district to provide further guidance.
The district’s football scrimmage will go on as scheduled at 3:30 p.m. today.
Earlier this week, Northwestern Lehigh High School canceled this week’s football game against Bangor due to a confirmed case of COVID-19 in a player at Northwestern Lehigh High School.
