Schuylkill hires interim HR support firm
Schuylkill County Commissioners voted last week to hire a Wyomissing based company for interim human resources director support and human resources recruiting support.
Hubric Resources was hired at $125 an hour and $110 respectively.
“I’m very much aware of the cost. I believe we really need to have someone in that office,” County Administrator Gary Bender said.
He said the county is “aggressively pursuing candidates,” adding two have been interviewed thus far for the director position. Bender said he doesn’t think the recruiting support will be needed.
The human resources director position is vacant because Deborah Twigg resigned. She was hired in January 2018 after former HR director/risk manager Martina Chwastiak retired. Twigg’s last day was Sept. 4. She did not provide a reason for her departure.
In other business, commissioners approved an ordinance that seeks to refinance the 2012 Series A bonds not to exceed $15 million.
Finance director Paul Buber said the county could save $1 million over 30 years with the refinancing.
“It does not involve any additional borrowing. What we are doing is taking advantage of more favorable interest rates that are in place right now then to where they were a couple years ago.”
Commissioners welcomed the chance to save money.
“Nice work, Paul,” Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington said.
Two polling locations will change in the county. Commissioners approved the polling site change for Rush Township Elixir precinct from the Rush Township Municipal building, 104 Mahanoy Ave., Tamaqua, to the Hometown Fire Company, 45 Mahanoy Ave., Tamaqua. The polling site for Pottsville’s fifth ward 1st precinct, which was at the Salvation Army building, 400 Sanderson St., is now at The Roundhouse, 400 N. Seventh St., Pottsville.
