Carbon County court
A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a state prison term on Friday in the county court on driving under the influence charges and probation violations.
Courtney Dickson,
26, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve a total of 12 to 60 months in a state correctional institution on DUI and endangering the welfare of a child counts. She was also sentenced on another DUI count to serve three to 60 months in a state prison and on three probation violation counts, she was sentenced to serve a total of two to four months. All the prison terms run concurrently.
She was arrested for DUI on Oct. 3, 2018, by Mahoning Township police. Another DUI occurred on Sept. 25, 2018, filed by Kidder Township police in which a juvenile was found in the vehicle. The three probation violations were filed by the adult probation office.
Dickson was originally placed in the county’s drug court program but was terminated from it when she violated the rules but using illegal substances again.
She was also ordered to pay fines totaling $3,500, license suspensions totaling 36 months, supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.
Dickson’s sentencing was done via video from the county prison where she had been an inmate on the various charges. She was given credit for a total of 184 days spent in jail to date.
Time served
Michael Bruno,
55, of Bayonne, New Jersey, was sentenced to time-served (six days) to six months in prison on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and fined $300 on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana.
He was found guilty of the charges by a jury at a trial held last month. However, he was found not guilty of more serious counts of two counts of simple assault. He was charged by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident on Aug. 4, 2017, in Penn Forest Township.
At the trial he admitted to the drug counts but denied the assault counts.
He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
