Hannah Hill, 22, Master at Arms with United States Navy, formerly of Lansford, returned to the Naval Station in Virginia marking the end of a seven-month deployment on the USS Bataan (LHD5).
The WASP-Class amphibious assault ship received the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Energy Excellent Award, afloat large amphibious category for actions performed during 2019 fiscal year while preparing for deployment in support of maritime secretarial operations and theater secretarial cooperative efforts in the United States 2nd 5th and 6th fleet of operations.
During command, indoctrinated sailors provided energy conservation and pollution abatement training, ensuring they understand the importance and necessity of energy conservation.
One of the many ways Bataan succeeded was its conservation of fuel when in-port and during underway steaming by the amount of redundant equipment online within the engineering plant.
Bataan recently returned July 2020 from their deployment with 2,500 sailors and embarked Marines worked with regiment allies and partners to carry out training and at-sea exercises.
Hill’s four years with the Navy consisted of a year command in Souda Bay, Greece, and the remainder of the time stationed in Norfolk assigned to the USS Bataan.
