Pollinator study

The Master Gardeners of Monroe County are currently conducting a pollinator study at the Western Pocono Community Library PSU demonstration garden as a cooperative effort with the PSU Entomology Department. There is one section of the garden dedicated for the study. This year the study is about different butterflies and moths that are attracted to the Joe Pye plant and different species of goldenrod.

Every year, Penn State Entomology Department sends a different species of plants and a list with types of pollinators to study. MGs volunteer to watch and record at specific times what pollinators visit this plant.

The results are then submitted to the Entomology Department, which uses the results for tracking pollinator populations. A more detailed link to the purpose of the studies is: https://bit.ly/3kl53sk.

In August the Monroe County Master Gardeners donated 382 pounds of produce to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Food Bank.
