The Schuylkill County Courthouse will close early Wednesday.
“There is a transformer that services the courthouse that has a problem,” Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington said Sunday.
He said PPL Electric Utilities Corp. contacted County Administrator Gary Bender “months ago” and told him there is a leak in the transformer. The delay was necessitated due to PPL scheduling for personnel among other reasons, Hetherington said.
The weekly 10 a.m. commissioner meeting will still occur Wednesday, but at 11:30 a.m. electronics such as computers must be turned off, Hetherington said. The courthouse will close at noon. A test was conducted recently to make sure the backup generators work.
“We had a small outage last week,” Hetherington said.
He expects the courthouse will open as scheduled Thursday at 8:30 a.m. “unless there is complications they don’t foresee.”
Bender did not return a call for comment Sunday.
