West End news for Sept. 2, 2020
Meeting tonight
The West End Home Association for American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the main hall at the post home in Gilbert.
Lions regroup
As with many groups, the Western Pocono Lions Club could not meet as planned, could not carry on projects as planned and hoped for because of COVID-19, other illness and members moving. The club’s vitality was drained.
However, members found a place to meet due to the suggestion of two club members and the club met in a circle with appropriate distancing and masks on in August, under the roof of the Effort UMC Church pavilion.
Club president Nick Hawkey and club secretary Jon Evans brought the immediate business of the club before the group.
Who would serve as officers, with two of the members, Lion Charles and Lion Joanne Rush moving to Florida and Lion Rich Zimmerman moving to Chambersburg.
The spirit of volunteering, of serving, was evident as one member volunteered to serve as treasurer.
Continuing the club’s leadership in service are, as mentioned: Nick Hawkey, president; Pat Buccieri, vice president; Jon Evans, secretary; and Marvin Aylsworth as treasurer, with Millie Hawkey tabulating the Kinsley receipts.
The next club meeting is set for 4 p.m. Sept. 17, at the Effort UMC Pavilion.
Former club member, president, and Past District Governor for District 14-U, and current visitor Lion Bob Argot then installed the 2020-2021 officers.
Anyone wishing more information about the Western Pocono Lions Club can contact club secretary Jon Evans at 570-445-9457.
