Palmerton man charged in two indecent assault cases
A Palmerton man faces multiple charges of indecent assault after he allegedly inappropriately touched two children on different occasions in Lehighton and Palmerton.
According to an affidavit filed by Lehighton police, on July 15, a woman and her 9-year-old child told police that Michael P. McGuigon, 28, of the 100 block of Beechay Lane, had touched the child when he was between the ages 3 and 6.
The family lived in the borough from October 2013 to May 2016 and McGuigon was a family friend who would visit their home during that time.
The victim told his mother that McGuigon touched him while they played hide and seek.
On July 20, the victim was interviewed again at the Child Advocacy Center. He reported the touching happened on four occasions and that he didn’t like how it felt.
On Aug. 3, Lehighton and Palmerton police spoke with McGuigon in the two cases.
Police interviewed McGuigon, who said he was rarely left alone with the children during those visits, but denied touching the child inappropriately.
McGuigon was charged with four counts each corruption of minors, indecent assault of a child less than 13 years old and indecent assault without consent.
He was arraigned before District Judge Eric Schrantz on Aug. 13 and faces a preliminary hearing at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 2. He is free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
He was also charged by Palmerton police on Aug. 19 after police were notified on July 15 of an accusation of McGuigon touching a boy between two and four years ago, while picking him up from his grandmother’s in Palmerton.
McGuigon denied the accusations to police.
He told police the child needed to urinate and he pulled over and let the child get out and relieve himself on the side of the road, but that he never left the truck.
McGuigon agreed to a polygraph exam, but on the day of the exam, said he would not take one.
He now faces additional charges of corruption of minors and indecent assault and was arraigned before District Judge William Kissner.
He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 2.
