A look back: Aug. 25, 1986

The Assembly of God Church returned home yesterday.

Founded in 1954 at the corner of Schuylkill and Elm streets in Tamaqua, the church was the home of the local congregation until 1960, when the edifice was sold to the Mennonites.

The church was purchased by the Baptists just last year and, after a local effort was mounted, was sold back to the Assembly of God.

Pastor Mark Caston held the dedication service yesterday with about 60 members present. They were welcomed to the community by Mayor William W. Yost.

Assembly of God churches of Eastern Central PA joined together to help the local parish purchase the building.
