Man, teen boy dead after fire; others have to jump to safety

ALLENTOWN (AP) - Fire swept through a three-story home in eastern Pennsylvania, killing a man and a teenage boy and forcing several others - including at least one young child - to jump from a second-floor window, authorities said.

Chief James Wehr of the Allentown fire department said one of the four was inured and was taken to a hospital, and three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.

Fire crews called to the Allentown home at about 11:30 a.m. Monday reported that flames had spread through the residence by the time they arrived. Firefighters said two people were later found dead. Their names weren’t immediately released.

The Lehigh County coroner’s office said the victims were a man and a teenage boy. Autopsies are slated Tuesday to determine the cause and manner of death. Wehr said it wasn’t immediately clear where the fire originated or how it started. A connected home was left with fire, smoke and water damage.
