Carbon County court
Five defendants in pending theft cases entered guilty pleas Monday in Carbon County court.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II presided over the session.
The following pleaded to retail theft and related counts.
Amanda Jane Hosier,
36, of Weissport, was arrested on Nov. 13, 2019, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. Because of prior theft convictions, the charge is rated a felony 3. She was accused of taking $106.80 worth of merchandise.
She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to supply a DNA sample. Because the items were recovered there was no restitution ordered.
Nicholas Sterling Minnich,
30, of Coaldale, was charged on June 27, 2019, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. He was accused of stealing $50.42 worth of merchandise.
He has a pending probation violation proceeding because he was on probation for another retail theft at the time of the incident.
Nanovic sentenced him to serve 48 hours to one year in jail, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample and make restitution of $50.32.
He will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on July 24.
Jennifer Diefenderfer,
36, of Coaldale, was arrested on March 1 by Lansford police at Boyer’s Market. She was accused of taking $104.25 worth of merchandise. Because of prior convictions, the charge is rated a felony 3.
Nanovic placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, supply an DNA sample and make restitution of $104.25.
Israel Lozada Jr.
44, of Harrisburg, was arrested on Aug. 23, 2018, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. In a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office, charges of retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft were dropped and a summary offense of disorderly conduct was added to the complaint.
Lozada’s plea was done by video from the state correctional institution at Mahanoy, Schuylkill County, where he is currently an inmate on other charges.
Nanovic imposed a fine of $300.
Michael Anthony Humanick Jr.
, 36, of Slatington, was arrested on Feb. 16 by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. He was accused of taking $239.94 worth of merchandise.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and supply a DNA sample. There was no restitution as the items were recovered.
The plea proceeding was done by video from the Northampton County prison where Humanick is being held on another retail theft charge.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation/parole.
