Palmerton news for July 22, 2020
Food Pantry
The CACPAC sponsored Palmerton Area Food Pantry will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton. This will again be a drive-thru event. Please stay in your vehicle and follow the instructions given by volunteers.
There is no need to be preregistered. You must be a resident of the Palmerton Area School District.
If you are unable to attend, you may have someone else pick up for you.
The food pantry is always in need of nonperishable food items, paper products, and personal care items. Donations may be dropped off at 452 Lafayette Ave., 459 Lafayette Ave., and 1002 Third St.
Boxes will be on the porches for donations.
Palmerton Tax Collector
The Palmerton Tax Collector, Lisa Nemeth, will be accepting payments for the remainder of 2020 by mail and payment box only at 821 First St., Palmerton, PA 18071.
There will be no appointments or office hours at her residence/place of business or the borough hall for the remainder of 2020.
Holy Trinity Lutheran
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.
The church will be open with limitations. The limited capacity of the sanctuary is approximately 40 people.
If you wish to attend, please call 610-826-2524 so the number attending can be noted. You may be asked to wait a week if the capacity is filled. You are asked to wear a mask. You may only enter through the main door.
Holy Communion will be observed in a different manner.
If you are unable to attend in person you may join on Zoom.
Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church
Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Trachsville, will be holding outside worship service on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the picnic grove.
Please bring a lawn chair and face mask.
Faith Alive Church
Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Bowmanstown is now holding one combined service each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There is three options of worshipping: Worship in the sanctuary, must wear a mask, have temperature check and social distancing required; you may worship in the parking lot and tune to 104.3; or you may join on Facebook live. All services are led by Pastor Rob Timlin Sr.
Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. is “Prayer & Praise Service” with the same three options as Sunday Worship.
July’s Mission is “ABC” Food Pantry. They are asking for canned goods, canned meat, soups, paper products, detergent, dish soap, and personal hygiene items. Please drop off at the church and it will be distributed to anyone with a need within and outside the church and also to the Palmerton, Lehighton and Slatington pantries.
Micah’s Backpack Program is still helping to feed Palmerton Students with a need. This program is now helping 30 students. If you would like to help or contribute food or money to purchase food please contact the church office at 610-852-2805.

Nearly New Shop
The Nearly New Shop, Delaware Avenue, Palmerton is open this week. The hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must wear a face mask to enter.
This is now part of the St. Luke’s Hospital volunteer organization, but is staffed primarily by the former Palmerton Hospital Auxiliary.
You will not be able to use the changing room or bathroom. Please drop off donations only during business hours.
Parryville Volunteer Fire Co.
Parryville Volunteer Co., Main St., Parryville will have curbside funnel cake and Caribbean Island Noodles on Saturday from 5-8 p.m.
The fire company will be selling funnel cakes, deep fried Oreos and drinks. The Caribbean Noodles Food Truck will be set up for 5:30 p.m.
Wheels of Freedom Car, Bike and Truck Show
The Wheels of Freedom Car, Bike and Truck Show, and Craft and Vendor Fair will be held in the Palmerton Borough Park on Saturday.
Please practice social distancing as much as possible, wear a mask and use hand sanitizer. The cars will be parked along the streets.
There will be food trucks, vendors, a Chinese auction, raffles, 50/50, and DJ. There will be a children’s area, four live bands, and PA Strip Club Choppers. Custom trophies.

Palmerton Area Library
The Palmerton Area Library is resuming regular hours. All library services are available by appointment only. Hours are Monday and Tuesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To make an appointment for book browsing, computer use, faxing or photocopying, please call the library at 610-826-3424. Curbside service will also continue. Pickup times are flexible, please call for details.
Masks are required in the library.
