A Saylorsburg man is facing assault charges after he intentionally rammed his vehicle into a state police cruiser in an attempt to flee a traffic stop initiated by a trooper at 12:48 p.m. July 15 in Polk Township.
Police said they attempted to stop Robert Carhart, 30, who had a warrant out for his arrest, while he was driving a Mercedes on Route 534. Police said he turned into a driveway at 446 Scenic Drive, put the car into reverse and struck the police car.
Police said Carhart fled the driveway and continued on Route 534, passing vehicles in an erratic and unsafe manner. The car went off the road near the intersection of Jonas Road, drove on the grass and came out to Jonas Road, turned into a cornfield and caused crop damage.
Police said a search warrant was executed and drug paraphernalia was discovered in the vehicle.
