Palmerton resumes concerts in the park

Palmerton residents who’ve spent the summer missing the borough’s well-known concerts in the park might be able to catch a show before the season’s end after all.

The Sunday evening concerts, organized by the Palmerton Concourse Club, typically begin in June and end in August. But shows slated for the first two months of summer were canceled due to the novel coronavirus.

Now that Carbon County is in Gov. Tom Wolf’s green phase - the least restrictive in his three-part reopening plan - organizers hope shows in August may go on.

The Concourse Club of Palmerton recently posted on its Facebook page the four bands that will start and finish the 2020 concert series. They are the Second to None Band on Aug. 2, Steel Creek on Aug. 9, the Palmerton Band on Aug. 16 and The Pennsylvania Villagers on Aug. 23.

Concerts run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the borough park on Delaware Avenue. Social distancing must be observed, and masks are required.

If Carbon is moved back to the yellow phase, remaining shows will be canceled.

Attendees are asked to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs for seating.

Palmerton’s concerts in the park have a history that spans three decades. This year marks the tradition’s 31st anniversary.
