Marian Catholic High School announces reopening plans
Interim Head of School, the Rev. Allen Hoffa has announced plans for the reopening of the school year at Marian Catholic.
On his biweekly live Facebook video, Hoffa detailed issues of money grants, COVID-19 guideline preparations, technology improvements, and the school dress code among other topics.
He explained the need for the Marian family to reach out to local congressmen and women to help secure funding for the high school.
“In light of the 180 Catholic schools that have closed due to the pandemic and the fact that we do not receive public tax dollars, we are seeking grants,” said Hoffa, who assured the Marian family that the school will be good to reopen and operate on a normal five day week for “many years.”
In preparation for the safety of staff and students, all teachers and students will be issued masks. Hoffa added that when a safety grant is secured, infrared temperatures will be taken for everyone at the ticket both in front of the gym. Hallways, public areas, and desks will be sanitized regularly.
“We will be submitting our guidelines proposal to the Allentown Diocese for approval,” said Hoffa.
Other matters
The student handbook will be revised with changes to the dress code that will include color options for boys’ pants, knee socks options for girls, and the addition of quarter zip tops to the customary Marian winter sweater. All attire will be available for sale at the school store.
Hoffa also announced that the main phone number to the school has been changed to 570-467-3335.
Hoffa said the school is also working on issuing a Chromebook to every student in case all the schools get shut down again.
He also acknowledged five retiring Marian teachers who have totaled more than 200 years of service to Catholic education.
They are Lori Ceci, Stan Dakosty, Joseph Dougherty, Maureen Heffelfinger, and Teresa Sheer.
“It’s bitter sweet,” he said. “We are sad to lose them, but happy they can now relax and enjoy their retirements after serving for so many years. They will always be a part of our Marian family.”
