Workers from the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad began construction Monday of a macadam passenger platform in front of the 1874 Tamaqua train station. The platform, more than 120 feet long, will feature Victorian period gooseneck lights and ornate wrought iron railings. Its installation will allow train excursions in and out of the community to kick into high gear. The first such event took place Saturday with passengers arriving in Tamaqua for dinner at a local restaurant. DONALD R. SERFASS/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
