Man charged with stalking woman

A Slatington man has been charged with stalking and harassing a woman who had a falling out with his girlfriend.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Garrett Lare of the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks:

At 5:32 p.m. April 22, a woman called the police barracks to report harassing telephone calls.

The victim related that she and her best friend had a falling out on April 18, and on April 21, the friend’s boyfriend, Jason Check, 18, began to call her repeatedly.

The victim blocked Check’s telephone number, but he began calling again on April 22 from a blocked telephone number.

The calls continued through the day until the victim decided to report the matter to the police.

Check attempted to video call the victim three times.

When asked how she knew it was Check who was calling her from the blocked number, the victim said that she recognized his voice and could hear her friend in the background on some of the calls.

The victim said he would just say mean things when he called.

When asked if the victim ever asked Check to stop calling her, the victim said that she did numerous times and also asked her friend to tell Check to stop, but the calls continued.

Her telephone call log showed about 35 blocked telephone calls from Check in a four-hour span.

The email also included a screen shot of the Instagram video chats, and had a profile picture of Check.

Check faces charges of stalking and harassment.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing July 22 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
