Parryville has reopened playground

With Carbon County in the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan, Mayor Daniel Graver officially announced the reopening of the Parryville playground.

Council members questioned the move.

Graver said, “The county went green. I’ve been to the playground since it’s been open and there hasn’t been close to 25 people there, and I believe even in the yellow phase we were allowed to congregate up to 25 people. So there was no reason in my opinion not to open it.”

In addition to the playground’s reopening, the borough is soon to receive five new security cameras to install there.

Council member Cathy Hawk said, “(The security cameras) are solar charged and battery-powered so they have a solar panel for each of the cameras.”

They will be mounted in different parts of the playground. They are wireless and the footage can go to cellphones to be monitored.

The borough hopes to discourage playground vandalism with the installation of these new cameras.

The grant project on Lower Main Road is in progress and the borough is considering hiring additional part-time borough workers to assist with the roadwork. Aspects of the job will involve cold and hot patches for the potholes and overall heavy lifting. An advertisement in the newspaper will contain a more detailed job description and contact information.

Tarring and chipping the roads will not take place until July.

Council member Monica Kunkle announced various fundraising events that are being hosted by the Parryville fire company this summer. They are continuing their drive-through funnel cake service from 6-9 p.m. every other Saturday. (The next sale will be June 27).

A spaghetti dinner will be held on June 27 now that the county is in the green phase of reopening.

As of now, Weissport’s 10th annual Rockin’ Rescue is still taking place on July 11 and 12 and the Parryville fire company plans on selling their funnel cakes there as well.

Rockin’ Rescue is a carnival charity event benefiting the Carbon County Friends of Animals shelter.

Various rock bands play throughout the event and people there are able to adopt shelter animals.
