Jim Thorpe board divided over treasurer

Jim Thorpe Area School District board members are divided over which one of their members should serve as board treasurer.

At a meeting Wednesday night, four board members proposed replacing Dennis McGinley with Paul Montemuro.

But the five other members voted to keep McGinley in his position.

The board’s finance chair, Cindy Lesisko-Henning, said McGinley isn’t active enough in his role as board treasurer.

She said that Montemuro would be more involved, pointing to his experience as a business owner. She said Montemuro has helped her find instances where the district wasn’t collecting money it was owed.

“I really need someone to review bills and not rubber stamp checks. We have the superintendent rubber stamping two names on the checks, and I’m signing. I would like to have another set of eyes when we’re signing checks, someone who would attend the finance committee meeting,” she said.

Board President Jerry Strubinger said the district’s new business manager will do what Lesisko-Henning is looking for from the board treasurer. She responded that it’s the board’s responsibility.

The board members who voted for Montemuro were all elected last fall: Lesisko-Henning, Montemuro, T.J. Garritano and Scott Pompa.

Voting for McGinley were Glenn Confer, Jerry Strubinger, Pearl Sheckler and Raniero Marciante.
