A look back: June 10, 1985

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization hailed Mrs. Jessie Johns as its 1985 Citizen of the Year at a dinner program held Saturday night at the Rod and Gun Club in town, praising the woman’s “service, dedication and leadership to Girl Scouting.”

The wife of Cecil Johns for the past 52 years, she accepted the coveted award from Edith Ann Szczecina, SHCIO secretary, and told a gathering of more than 100 friends and family members, “I want to thank SHCIO, the people of Summit Hill and the assistant leaders and scouting committee people who helped me through the years.”

She has been involved in Girl Scouting in Summit Hill for over 38 years.
