The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame has canceled its 2020 banquet because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 31st Annual banquet was scheduled to be held on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Dean Anthony’s restaurant in Jim Thorpe.

“There is still so much uncertainty regarding the virus that the Jim Thorpe Area Hall of Fame committee feels it is best we cancel now rather than drag the decision out,” explained a release sent out by the committee. “We have received input from a majority of the board members and we are all in agreement that this was the right thing to do.”

The committee’s release said that it’s optimistic the banquet will return in 2021.
