Northwestern selects Lloyd as boys varsity basketball coach

Jerry Lloyd has been named the new boys basketball coach at Northwestern High School.

Lloyd was approved unanimously by the Northwestern School Board on Wednesday night.

Since 2017 Lloyd has served as the head boys basketball coach at Phillipsburg High School. Before getting the Phillipsburg job, he had assistant coaching stops at DeSales University, as well as Bethlehem Catholic, Easton, and Northampton high schools.

Prior to his coaching career, Lloyd compiled an impressive resume as a player.

Lloyd was a standout player for Whitehall High School, scoring over 1,500 career points. He earned numerous accolades with the Zephyrs, including induction in the the Whitehall Hall of Fame, McDonald’s All-American, East Penn Conference MVP, and Morning Call Player of the Year. He helped the Zephyrs win two East Penn Conference titles and the 1997 District 11 title.

After high school, Lloyd went on to play for Mount St. Mary’s on a full Division 1 scholarship. He left his mark at Mount St. Mary’s where he was selected as a captain his senior year. He scored over 800 points in his career and is fifth on the all-time Mount St. Mary’s three-point list.

Lloyd replaces Billy Hallman, who compiled a 60-75 record as the Tigers head coach over the last six seasons.
