A unanimous decision was made to appoint Robert Baxter as the new Chestnuthill Township Supervisor on Tuesday following a recent vacancy on the board of supervisors.
Baxter was sworn in during a partially remote supervisors meeting using Zoom.
Successive to Baxter’s appointment as supervisor, Eric Snyder was promoted to vice chairman to fill the role left vacant by Christopher Eckert.
Baxter brings a wide variety of experience to the position; he currently serves on the Monroe County Planning Commission and is serving for a second year as an alternate on the Chestnuthill Township Regional Planning Commission.
Baxter has been a resident of Chestnuthill since 2013.
“While I am still fully self-employed, I believe I can make the time to fulfill the responsibilities relative to the position as I know it,” Baxter said.
“What I don’t know I am willing to learn. I am glad to discuss any questions.”
The appointment of a new supervisor followed the resignation of Vice Chairman Christopher Eckert, who submitted his letter of resignation to the board of supervisors on April 9. He expressed personal reasons for his decision to leave the position, and stated it was a difficult choice for him to make.
“The township supervisors and staff will definitely miss him, as he was a very effective and dedicated supervisor,” township Manager David Albright said.
Eckert has been a resident of Chestnuthill Township for 30 years and was first elected to the board of supervisors in 2009.
