Dinner canceled
Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville has announced that for the health and safety of all volunteers and guests, tonight’s free community dinner is canceled. The church is hoping to be able to offer something in May.
WEPOSC news
In accordance with Gov. Tom Wolf’s stay-at-home order through April 30, the West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced that WEPOSC’s Easter candy from the canceled egg hunt has been donated to the PVEN food pantry and distributed through the pantry’s scheduled distributions.
In addition, the following were canceled at the Chestnuthill Park location: exercise classes, bingo, the scheduled craft and gift fair and the Chestnuthill Building rentals through April 30.
Additional cancellations and postponements will be reviewed as new information is provided through the most current health guidelines. Check out both the WEPOSC Facebook page and website, www.weposc.org, for further updates.
The website is also the place for information and the application to apply for the David Fleetwood Scholarships, with the deadline being April 27.
It is open to Pleasant Valley Seniors Class of 2020.
Pantry open
The SFRC (food pantry) at Effort UMC is operating on its normal schedule, the second and fourth Saturday, which means it will be open this Saturday. However, the process continues to be different. It is now a drive-in type of service.
Those making use of the pantry should follow the direction of the parking coordinators and not get out of the car. Food will be brought to one’s vehicle. There will be no set menu.
Sunday supper
The next community Sunday Supper at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will only be a takeout supper. It is scheduled for Sunday. Those wishing to have the meal are asked to stay in their car and supper will be brought to the vehicle.
Polk meeting
Polk Township Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. Attendees are reminded to wear a mask.
Soup fundraiser
Effort UMC is taking orders for quarts of soup as a fundraiser for the church. The soup sale will run from May 1 to May 13. The pickup is set for May 17, between noon and 2 p.m. Soups are: roasted vegetable and Mediterranean chicken orzo.
Call the church office at 570-629-1890 for costs and/or leave a message or email an order to eumc103@ptd.net no later than May 13 at 3 p.m.
Blood drive
For anyone who can be a blood donor, an American Red Cross blood drive is set for the Jackson Township Fire Hall in Reeders from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4.
Appointments are needed. Schedule online or call 800-RED-CROSS.
Both blood and Power Red are being accepted.
Ross meeting
The next meeting of the Ross Township Supervisors is set for 7 p.m. May 4. The meeting is being held by audio conference and people can participate the night of the meeting by calling 978-990-5000.
Any questions/concerns before the meeting should be submitted by email or phone. They must be received by the township office no later than noon May 1.
