U.S. Army Reserve marks 112 years

On this April 23, the U.S. Army Reserve will be serving and protecting our citizens for 112 years. In 1908, Congress created the Medical Reserve Corps, the official predecessor of the Army Reserve to be a Federal Reserve for readiness when needed.

And now in this period of COVID-19, the Army Reserve contains 50 percent of all medical services in the total Army. Presently, 2,800 Army Reserve medical and support personnel are serving across the United States assisting with the virus recovery programs, which includes medical facilities at East Stroudsburg University and Temple University in Pennsylvania, as part of 11 teams across the nation aiding our citizens in the recovery programs. Our citizen Reserve soldiers are providing military support to civil authority for the well-being of fellow citizens. In addition, 10,000 Army Reserve soldiers currently serve around the world protecting our freedom and assisting other countries. An operational force, our Army Reserve Command is the largest single command in the Total Army.

Pennsylvania contains the fourth-largest number of Army Reserve soldiers assigned in the Army Reserve Command. Serving in 1908 and serving today, your neighbors in the Army Reserve are trained, skilled professionals prepared for today and the future.
