Another fire breaks out at Polk development

Another residential structure fire broke out early this morning at a home in a development in Polk Township where a series of arsons have occurred.

According to scanner reports, the call came in at 12:57 a.m. from a caller who said the fire was at 8744 E. Sherwood Drive, Robin Hood Lakes development, and that the house was on fire, with flames showing. She called in the same house on April 1.

When asked if the fire was at the same address, township fire Chief Billy Tippett said it was not, but confirmed that the fire did break out in the development.

Tippett then deferred all other information to a state fire marshal.

“Under investigation by a state fire marshal,” Tippett said. “They’re on scene.”

Scanner reports said that in addition to Polk Township Fire Department, West End Fire Company and West End Ambulance also responded.

The township - and especially the development - has been the scene of various fires in recent months.

State police trooper Daniel Marotta said earlier this month that a fire that was discovered at 4:51 a.m. at a vacant residence at 8744 E. Sherwood Drive on April 1 was deliberately started.

Marotta noted there had been multiple recent fires in the development which have also been determined to be arson.

In March crews responded to a vacant home at 8550 Robinhood Drive in Kunkletown’s Robin Hood Lakes at 2:15 a.m.

A house caught fire in a vacant home at 8775 Twin Lake Drive in Robin Hood Lakes last October. The home, valued at $60,000, sustained major damage, but no injuries were reported.

Other Polk arsons were reported on Sept. 11 at 4862 Queens Way, and another in the development in July.

Police ask anyone with information regarding any of the fires or notice any suspicious activity or people in the area to call the Lehighton barracks at 610-681-1850.
