Tornado watch, flood advisory in effect for area

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a tornado watch for our area until 6 p.m. today.

There is also a flood advisory in effect until 5 p.m.

At 12:59 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause minor flooding. Up to 3 inches of rain have already fallen through out the course of the day.

This includes the following highways...

Interstate 80 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 13.

Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 278 and 314.

Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 10 and 67.

Pennsylvania Turnpike near exit 298.

Northeast Extension between exits A56 and A95.

Interstate 380 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 0 and 13.

Interstate 176 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 1 and 11.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for winds of 15 to 25 mph with 45 to 55 mph gusts expected from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

The strongest winds are forecast to occur from late morning into the afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible on Monday that could result in even stronger wind gusts.

The latest forecast:

Overnight: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 54. Southeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Monday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. High near 71. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Monday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night: A chance of rain before 5 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow before 8 a.m., then a chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 51.
