A look back: April 11, 1967

Panther Valley School District board members voted last night to continue the school’s summer recreation program for another year. At the same time, the board announced this will be the final year it will fund the program because the state no longer finances the program that was labeled a recreation subsidy before this year.

It was agreed to limit recreation expenses this summer to $10,000, about $6,000 under the cost last year.

The board members said they will send letters to the four district communities (Coaldale, Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill) - asking them to include the program in their budgets. Most of the activities are held at the Panther Valley Recreation Center.
