A look back: April 6, 1965

Coaldale might not have the largest firefighting force in the area, but in being well-dressed could match any of the companies.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. yesterday, the siren was sounded for a small brush fire in the vicinity of East Miner Street and Foster Avenue. Anthony Wargo, president of the Coaldale Fire Company, was about to leave on a business trip, Dressed nattily in a blue serge suit with white shirt and tie, Wargo rushed to the borough hall and drove the firetruck to the scene of the blaze, where the blaze was quickly quelled with the use of chemicals.

Andrew Mikolay, fire chief, was in charge at the scene.
