Parents at Jim Thorpe Area School District’s Penn-Kidder Campus want to make sure kids and families kept home from school have enough to eat.
The school’s Parent Teacher Association has been handing out food items to families to help them get through the school and business closures due to the COVID-19 virus.
“It gives kids something for over the weekend, along with the school’s lunch,” said PTA member Amber Everett.
Members have been working throughout the week to assemble more than 100 bags of nonperishable foods, like macaroni and cheese, noodles, fruit snacks and juice.
Once a week, usually on Fridays, volunteers distribute the bags alongside the school’s bag lunch program. The school distributes lunches every weekday at five locations around the district.
They have handed out bags at the Penn-Kidder Campus as well as Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Company #2.
They rely upon donations for the food. Anyone interested in donating can contact Penn-Kidder PTA at pkpta@jtasd.org.
“We’re going to keep doing this as long as school is out of session,” Everett said.
