Carbon County commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, discussed or voted on the following items:
• Approved two requests to apply for $9,643.53 through the Administration Office of Pennsylvania Courts for the Carbon County Drug Treatment Court and $9,437.84 for the Carbon County Veterans Treatment Court. The grants will be used to cover the cost of additional hours for adult probation staff, offset the cost of transportation and purchase incentives for both specialty courts. It will also be used to pay for training for interventions to address prior trauma experienced by the participants in the drug court; and to purchase a laptop and related items for the mentor coordinator for veterans court.
• Awarded the contract for the Carbon County Emergency Operations and Training Center phase 1B project to low bidder Kobalt Construction Inc. of Tobyhanna at a cost of $2,286,832 with an alternate for paving at a cost of $45,525.
• Approved a contract with ElectionIQ LLC of Stow, Ohio, to print the 2020 election forms and ballots at their bid of $37,376 with an alternate bid of $14,500.
• Approved a U.S. Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness grant program agreement in the amount of $5,600 for Oct. 1, 2019, through Sept. 30, 2022, for submission to PEMA. Carbon County’s share of the grant is $1,400.
• Approved a contract with Goldberg Plumbing, Heating and AC LLC of Jim Thorpe for the installation of a Thermo Dynamics S-100 oil burner and removal of old burner at a cost of $5,500 at the Mauch Chunk Lake Park office.
• Approved the purchase of a high speed scanner and related software licenses and other services from Dominion Voting Systems Inc. of Denver at a total purchase cost of $49,210. The scanner is for the election bureau for use with the elections.
• Approved a resolution appointing David J. Bodnar, director of the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development, as the designation agent for the Hazard Mitigation Grant program on behalf of the county.
• Commissioner Chris Lukasevich announced that draft agendas for the weekly commissioners’ meetings will be posted on the county website beginning with the Feb. 27 meeting.
• Lukasevich also commended the parking staff for its handling of the increased traffic during the Winterfest weekend and return of the train.
• Lukasevich announced that Jason Shellhammer, the county’s GIS director, has been selected to showcase the county’s use of EagleView in its mapping system. Carbon County uses EagleView, which is the imagery that is overlaid on the mapping in the county’s system. Shellhammer is one of 20 people who will have programs highlighted at the company’s conference in Phoenix in March.
