Man shot outside saloon in Monroe County

A man was shot early Tuesday morning outside a Monroe County business.

State police at Stroudsburg said the incident occurred about 1 a.m. on Tuesday outside the 1836 Saloon/J & N Service Center, along Milford Road in Smithfield Township.

Troopers said they were dispatched to the Lehigh Valley Hospital — Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg, emergency room for a report of a man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The victim was dropped off at the ambulance bay area of the emergency room. Troopers said the victim, a 37-year-old from Bushkill, who they declined to identify, and a friend came out of the saloon when they met an unknown man near the service station next to the saloon.

The victim and the man were talking when another unidentified man walked up to the victim. The victim was then shot in the abdomen one time. The suspected shooter and other man fled the scene in separate vehicles. A male friend of the victim, who was not involved in the initial incident, arrived and found his friend injured and drove him to the hospital.

One of the fleeing vehicles was described as being a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, and the second a light-colored sedan.

The shooter was described as having an athletic build, light-skinned male with dark eyebrows and wearing a red hoodie. A handgun was found at the scene, troopers noted.

Troopers said the investigation is continuing but said the incident appears to be isolated.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers.
