Lansford man jailed for assault

A Lansford man was jailed on assault and related counts stemming from a domestic incident.

Summit Hill police said on Dec. 26 at 4:33 p.m. officers were dispatched to a residence along East Fell Street for a domestic incident.

A woman told police that Philip Argott, 43, of Lansford, came to her residence the night before and refused to leave despite her having a protection from abuse order against him. She said he returned Dec. 26 and was asked to leave again and got angry.

The woman said he then grabbed her by the hair and threw her onto the floor and placed his hands around her throat and applied pressure to constrict her airway.

The victim told police she was unable to breathe. Her children attempted to pull Argott from her. The woman had red marks around her neck consistent with being choked.

Argott, who was at the scene, was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning on charges of strangulation, simple assault, criminal trespass and harassment.
