An Allentown man faces criminal charges after authorities said he barricaded himself inside a home and fired shots at police during a lengthy standoff.
The standoff started around 11 p.m. Christmas night in Allentown and concluded about six hours later when the man surrendered to officers, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear what had spurred the incident or if anyone else was in the residence during that time.
Police said 24-year-old Tyler Hartenstine faces five counts each of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. He was shot by a police officer during the standoff and is in stable condition, police said.
Residents reported hearing shots fired during the night, but it did not appear that any people or property was struck.
Some residents were evacuated as a precaution when the standoff started, while others were told to remain in their homes until the incident was resolved.
