Local organizations to host free Thanksgiving dinners

A group of volunteers gathered to peel potatoes at the Tamaqua Salvation Army on Wednesday morning. The Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St, Tamaqua, will host a free Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The limit is two meals and advanced notice is appreciated. Call 570-668-0410 for more information.

Additional free Thanksgiving dinners:

• Nov. 27: Living Hope Lighthouse Church Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner in Palmerton, 6 to 8 p.m.

• Nov. 28: American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert Annual Open Community Thanksgiving Dinner, noon to 4 p.m.

• Verona Pizza House and the Lehighton Fire Company will be sponsoring a free community Thanksgiving meal from noon to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at the Lehighton Community Recreation Center, at 243 S. Eighth St., in Lehighton. Drinks will be provided by Zimmerman’s Dairy.

• St. John’s United Church of Christ, 15 S. Second St., Slatington, Noon-2 p.m. Nov. 28. Home-delivered meals for Northern Lehigh area residents may be arranged. Contact the church for details, 610-767-5554.

• Effort UMC is holding its 15th community Thanksgiving dinner at 2 p.m. Nov. 28. Those who are alone or are unable to prepare their own meal are invited to share the joy of the holiday at the church.
