Summit Hill youth earns Eagle Scout rank

Brian Bauer, 17, the son of Kelly and William Bauer, was awarded the Eagle Scout rank on Oct. 19.

Bauer earned this rank, which is achieved by only 7% of Scouts nationally. Bauer also has the honor of being a third generation Eagle Scout in his family. He is preceded in this honor by his uncle, Chris Wolman, and grandfather, Francis Wolman.

He has been a member of Marian Catholic Band since ninth grade, active in his school as a library aide and assists yearly in planning the annual academic awards dinner.

Bauer has worked the past two summers as a camp counselor at Resica Falls Boy Scout Camp. He plans on majoring in chemistry and secondary education at King’s College.

Involved in Scouting for 11 years, he earned 41 merit badges (21 badges are required for the Eagle rank).

He has held several troop leadership positions, including webmaster, patrol leader and troop guide for the past two years

For his Eagle Scout project, he worked on the beautification of the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall, painting the doors and railings.

He also placed new weather stripping and spruced up the building.

He raised $650 for this project through a bake sale at the Weissport Redneck Festival. Baked goods were donated by many family and friends, and he received material and gift card donations from Giant Food Store, Shea’s Hardware in Palmerton and Marzen’s Hardware in Lehighton. The project took 356 hours to complete.

Troop 555 is sponsored by Christ Lutheran Church in Jim Thorpe.
