Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1964 holds its 55th reunion
The 55th anniversary reunion of the Tamaqua Area High School Class of 1964 was held on Sept. 8 at Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop in McAdoo with 50 classmates in attendance.
The invocation and benediction was offered by the Rev. Franklin Shock.
The welcome address was delivered by Richard Arculin and the toast was given by Kenneth Hassan.
A former classmate, Richard Pierce of Jacksonville, Florida, surprised everyone with his attendance. Richard’s family moved out of the area while he was attending high school.
Thirteen deceased class members since the last reunion were recognized with a moment of silence: Florence (Gulnder) Strohl, Larry Kellet, Victoria (Fegley) Hinkel, Beverly (Neifert) Yoder, Joan Ann (Burrell) Rissinger, Robert Allen Weyhenmeyer, William H. Edmonds, Joseph E. Shamonsky, John Gulden, John “Pat” Morgans, Nancy (Pieracini) Dietrich, Nancy (Zimmerman) Springer and Nancy (Herring) Hoban.
Prizes were awarded during the evening. Music was provided by J.D.’s Road Show.
Members of the reunion committee were Thomas and Toni (Andrukitis) Jones, William Zubey, William Henry, Eileen (Zehner) Meiser, Dorothy Eberts, Gladys (Simek) Polgar, Janet Keich, Penny (Krause) Sestakauskas and Loretta (Derr) Gilfert.
The class plans to celebrate with a picnic in 2021 and its 60th reunion in 2024.
