A Lehighton woman has been charged with burglary after she broke into another person’s apartment.

According to the affidavit of probable caused filed by patrolman Robert DeFuso of the Lehighton Borough Police Department:

At around 8:17 Sept. 24, DeFuso received a dispatch to the 300 block of South Second Street, rear, for a burglary.

The resident said she had just finished taking a shower, and when she came out of her bathroom, she noticed a woman, later identified as Kimberly Knight, 48, of the 300 block of S. Second Street, standing in her dining room.

She was holding items that belonged to the victim, and dropped them onto the floor when confronted.

The woman had Knight sit at the table and tried to question her. Knight mumbled to her.

When the victim’s boyfriend arrived and Knight began to flee.

The victim’s boyfriend noticed items bulging in Knight’s shorts, including the victim’s cellphone, which he grabbed as she fled the apartment.

A large amount of jewelry was missing from the victim’s jewelry box. Knight had taken handbags and filled with them with victim’s clothing and shoes.

As the victim went through her belongings that Knight discarded, she noticed a black wallet which contained Knight’s identification.

Police took Knight into custody and placed into the holding cell, where she threw herself into the wall head first.

As a precautionary measure, Knight was transported to the hospital for treatment.

While at the hospital, Knight began to fight with hospital staff and spat blood on one.

The approximate value on the stolen items is estimated to be $1,800.

Knight faces charges of burglary; criminal trespass; criminal attempt; receiving stolen property; and assault by prisoner.

She is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 9 before District Judge Joseph D. Homanko Sr. of Weatherly.
