Local roundup: Results from Oct. 2
The Northern Lehigh field hockey team topped Salisbury in overtime on Wednesday, while Palmerton picked up a win in Colonial League field hockey action.
Elsewhere, the Tamaqua boys soccer, Pleasant Valley girls soccer and Jim Thorpe volleyball teams also earned victories, while Weatherly posted a sweep in a Schuylkill League cross country meet.
FIELD HOCKEY
Salisbury-No. Lehigh
Northern Lehigh came away with a 2-1 Colonial League overtime victory against Salisbury.
Hailey Evans and Zoey Hathaway posted the Bulldogs’ goals.
Northwestern-So. Lehigh
Southern Lehigh defeated Northwestern for a 3-2 Colonial League win.
Catasauqua-Palmerton
Palmerton cruised to an 8-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Abby Everett, Abby Reis and Megan Serfass finished with two goals apiece for the Bombers. Emily Baumgardt and Emma Christman also found the back of the cage.
Molly Mihalko, Erin Kistler, Ana Recker and Kelsey Balliet were credited with assists.
ES North-Pleasant Valley
East Stroudsburg North edged Pleasant Valley for a 2-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.
Samantha Ehrlich and Alexis Lowe scored for the Timberwolves.
Arianna Mulligan posted the Bears’ lone goal, while Matti Hyland was credited with the assist. Emma Strohl finished with nine saves.
BOYS SOCCER
Catasauqua-Tamaqua
Nathaniel Noftz shined on Senior Night to help Tamaqua secure a 2-1 non-league win over Catasauqua.
With 10 minutes left in the game, the senior stepped away from his goal keeper position to take part on the offensive attack, scoring both of the Blue Raiders’ goals. Noftz finished also finished with five saves for Tamaqua.
GIRLS SOCCER
ES South-Pleasant Valley
Five different players scored as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 5-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.
Larissa Mulligan, Rachel Baez, Aurora Cruci, Addison Borger and Aliyah Williams hit the back of the net for the Bears, while Elizabeth Wagner, Jenny Rae Schneider and Lucianne Mesce all were credited with assists.
Tamaqua-Pine Grove
Mel Love scored with 2:57 left in the second overtime to lift Pine Grove to a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
The Blue Raiders held a 31-14 edge in shots, and a 5-4 edge in corners.
Baylee Reinhardt grabbed 10 saves for Tamaqua, while counterpart McKenna Levan finished with 20 saves to preserve the shutout.
VOLLEYBALL
Sch. Haven-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe swept Schuylkill Haven for a 25-16, 25-10, 25-9 Schuylkill League win.
Brandy Montemuro led the Olympians with 13 kills, eight digs and five assists, while Abbey McGinley finished with 14 digs.
Kristin Pompa (three kills, two blocks), Grace Baldassano (eight assists) and Andi Hoherchak (eight assists) contributed in the victory.

The Weatherly boys ran away with a Schuylkill League sweep.
Scotty Zoscin and Frankie Willis finished second and third, respectively, for the Wreckers.
In the girls meet, the Wreckers’ Danielle Gordon finished in second place.
