It was with great interest I read recently of the attempt of the zoning board to regulate what are called “Airbnbs.” I had never heard of that term until I was rudely introduced to the concept. Much to my surprise my former neighbor (who once told us he loved living in Jim Thorpe) converted his former residence, next to our house, into one of those.
I’m sorry that Mr. Rechs feels he is being unfairly treated by the proposed ordinance. Perhaps he would have liked to have spent last summer in our house with the windows closed, still unable to block out the din of loud, and sometimes profane, dialogues emanating from his former residence, along with the occasional firecrackers, sometimes well past the 11 p.m. cutoff for noise. If you want to run a hotel, there are better locations on the west side, downtown, than in our backyard.
Sincerely,
Michael Eckhart
