Ferne Elaine Berger (Mertz) and Robert D. Berger Jr. of Lehighton celebrated their 60th anniversary on Sept. 26.

The couple were married on Sept. 26, 1959, at St. John’s United Church of Christ Mahoning Valley by the Rev. George Fetteroff, former pastor of St. John’s.

Mrs. Berger is the daughter of the late John and Augusta Mertz. Her husband is the son of the late Robert Sr. and Bertha Berger.

The couple have three children: Ginny (Berger) Heintzelman and her husband, Michael, of Chesterfield County, Virginia; Keven Berger and his wife, Deborah, of Memphis, Tennessee; and Gerry Berger and his wife Roxanne, or Lehighton. They have five grandchildren: Taylor Heintzelman (Farnsworth), Courtney Berger, Danny Berger, Zachary Berger and Dalton Berger.

The family will gather this fall to celebrate and honor them.
