Voting machines arriving in Carbon

Carbon County’s new voting machines are beginning to arrive.

On Thursday, the county commissioners announced that the new machines will be ready for the November election and said that the election bureau is now working to set up trainings for the approximate 150 poll workers.

Once the staff is trained, the commissioners said they are hoping to get the new machines out into the public, so that the voters can see the new process and do a practice run ahead of the election.

Commissioner William O’Gurek said that he would like to see the machines set up in high traffic areas like the Carbon Plaza Mall and other grocery stores in the county.

Last week, the commissioners officially approved the quote for the purchase of 55 new voting machines and related materials from Dominion Voting Systems Inc. of Denver, Colorado at a base cost of $421,753.31 plus shipping costs and $9,000 for two on-site support services for the general election.

The new machines will include paper ballots to meet the state requirement of having a paper trail during the election.
