Carbon County Recreation Authority members were informed yesterday that plans for the Lehigh River Gorge State Park are progressing at a good pace.
Agnes McCartney, project coordinator, noted $500,000 for the park is expected to be approved at a meeting in Harrisburg on Wednesday of the Board of Directors of the General State Authority.
The park will extend through Foster, Dennison and Bear Creek townships and White Haven Borough in Luzerne County and Lehigh, Penn Forest and Kidder Townships and Jim Thorpe Borough in Carbon County and will include 7,000 acres of land that will be acquired to make it a reality. A major step in the project was taken when the Blue Ridge Real Estate Co. donated 14 acres of land near the Lehigh River to the state.
